Finding My Way - Malala Yousafzai

More Than an Activist - Healing and Humanity

Malala Yousafzai is recognized as a Nobel Peace Prize winner, a best-selling author, and an award-winning film producer. She was born in Mingora, Pakistan, where she spoke up for girls’ education under the Taliban rule. Unfortunately, at a young age of 15, she was attacked by the Taliban, which nearly cost her life. Luckily, Malala was able to survive the attack and went to England to continue her education away from the Taliban.

Finding My Way - Learning to Be Ordinary in an Extraordinary Life

Malala shares her stories from her university years at Oxford. She touches on making new friends, experiencing first love, and studying for exams. It’s about growing up under the world’s spotlight. Malala’s primary objective during her university years was to expand her social life, even if that meant failing a few exams in the first semester. Malala wanted to fit in as best she could, even when it involved wearing jeans and a jacket instead of her traditional cultural clothing. Malala feels that she never had the human interaction she craved growing up, which was a goal she had set for herself. Her goal was to feel like a normal college student.

Inspiring the World

Malala is admired for her activism and her powerful story. She is resilient, yet she also finds joy and purpose in the face of hardship. It’s not just about learning to survive, it’s about learning to live. Malala touches on how, even though she survived the attack from the Taliban, she experienced panic attacks and nightmares seven years later, when she finally reached out for help. Malala shows us through her book that finding your way is a lifelong journey within yourself.

Malala Yousafzai’s Finishing My Way is a reminder that even the most extraordinary people are still human.

Gift from Local Libraries

One of the wonderful things my local library offers is access to webinars and author talks with incredible writers, such as Malala. These events enable readers to hear from the authors themselves, learn about their creative processes, inspirations, and the stories behind their books. If your local library offers webinars, be sure to check for upcoming events. It’s an excellent way to learn something new and even learn about your favorite author.
